I saw this on the way to Movie Tavern this Saturday to see Prisoner (cool flick).
What sort of person buys a Dodge Mentally Challenged bird?
A far cry from this IMO:

Not going to lie; there is a modicum of appeal here.

If retro hadn't officially jumped the shark before now ...

I kind of like it. And I think I said as much when I first saw them announced a couple of years ago. If you are going to go batshit crazy, then no half measures. Either full on Gonzo or go home. With that in mind. I approve.

Retro jumped the shark somewhere around when they announced the New Beetle...

As far as bolt on body kits go, it's not that bad. Though I'll agree that it doesn't do the original any justice.

I actually don't hate it...
I believe that instead of resurrecting long dead name plates the manufacturers should create new icons (at one time the Charger, Camaro, and Thunderbird were all novel cars) for future generations to cannonize.
That said, there is something pretty awesome about "Nostalgia-mods" for current cars which reflects their earlier sister-platforms. I like this almost as much as the Trans-Am mod for current gen Camaros.

I actually like this. It's very unique, and the modifications seem to be done with a quality fit and finish. Overall, a good hat tip to the original.

Now, how about a legit Charger Daytona?

Kinja just ate my comment but, I was saying...I don't hate it. The nose is too pointy, and it needs more shape up front. Since the older car is more rounded in at the bottom edge, the new car's nose needs an additional body line on the lower edge.
I suck at this type of photoshopping, but here's my best rendering:

It was the Thunderbird that did it.

And it needs widened cop car wheels:

Hey, I've been there! ~5 minutes from my house, movie tavern is the shit. That Challenger is just plain shit.

They made a lot of those, actually. Some had 426 Hemi crate motors I think. I'm totally cool with that.

i like it as much as the original, which is to say... it's fine.

It may not be "tasteful" but it's all pretty well done. If there was currently such a thing as a 2-door Charger that might be a better starter car, because this is sort of like a Barracuda Superbird (or Challenger Daytona if you will), which isn't quite right.

Speak of the devil.
I was talking about that earlier today, in the Charger Daytona review thread.
I don't quite get why they gave the 'new' one the pointed beak on the nosecone.
Why not have the straight-edge chisel nose like the original, without the point?
